Digital is evolving and how!

The concept of digital identity has evolved significantly over the last 15 years. There are no second thoughts about the consumption of the internet worldwide. From the pencil to the printing press to computers to the Internet, and more recently, our smartphones, each has evolved communication in some way.

There were times when my mom used to get worried about my whereabouts when I crossed the time limit of coming home because she couldn’t call me then. And now, for all that she has to ask me, she shoots a WhatsApp message and also understands that I have read her message but not replied. So when I call her next, she argues with me on not replying to her message. This is a shift, it clearly shows how we have evolved as consumers. All of us are living in the era where we are screenagers. We all are addicted to our screens all the time – mobile phones, tablets, desktops, kindles, laptops etc. It doesn’t end here. We are living in an era where all of us want our friends to know what are we doing, and hence we Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. For any recognition you get, or any new restaurant you go to, or any new movie that you watch there is a status update, or a picture or a check in on your social media profiles.

As the evolution of digital identity continues, we will see even more unique and integrated means of online platforms. Similarly, digital touch will not replace human contact, but when we are away from our loved ones, digital touch has the potential to extend that unique and intimate communication method in ways not possible before. Long Live Digital!
